The best Big Mac ever!

OK, I just had to post about this... in one of my recent blog posts, I talked about the case of the woman who called 911 three times because her local McDonald's didn't give her the chicken nuggets she ordered. Now granted, they also wouldn't give her a refund for what she had already paid for the nuggets, and just kept trying to get her to take a substitution, but I kinda got into it for awhile because, it just kind of struck a nerve with me. My very first job was at McDonald's, so I know from personal experience that it is a hard, thankless, low-paying job. So, whenever I see someone going off on some poor fast-food worker behind the counter over something that, regardless of who's fault it is, is stupid and petty, it just drives me crazy....

Anyway, in all my posting about it, I was never sticking up for the McDonald's corporation or the managers there, or whoever it might have been that made the stupid rule about not giving refunds. I was just sticking up for the workers who not only had to put up with this woman, but I'm sure like all fast-food workers everywhere, have to put up with a million jerks that come their way who, think it's perfectly OK to take out their frustrations and bad day on these people.

Anyway, maybe it was all the talking about McDonald's combined with the fact that I was out and about a lot yesterday, that on my way to pick up my husband after work, I decided to be bad and stop at McDonald's for something to eat :-p Well, it wasn't really until I was halfway through my Big Mac, that I suddenly had the thought, "Oh my God, this is the best Big Mac I've ever had!" :-p And, I just thought back to how, not only was everyone there quick and efficient, but all of the employees were very friendly. And it was just an overall very positive experience.

It just got to me thinking that, while I'm not a religious person, I am a big believer in karma. That, at least generally, the good things you do in this world come back to you, just like the bad things you do in this world come back to you. And, I just thought, maybe all that defending I did of McDonald's workers paid off in the form of having the best McDonald's experience of my life! :-p Which yes, is still a small thing... but it prompted me to write this letter to the manager of that particular McDonald's (if anyone in the area might be wondering, it's the McDonald's near White Marsh Mall here in MD)...

Hello! I just wanted to make a couple of comments about the service at this McDonald's. I come here occasionally, since my husband works just down the street. I usually come in the morning with my 3-year old twin daughters and, while the service has always been decent, I'm always a little disappointed that the play area never seems to be open (even though it's between the hours of when it's supposed to be open). I only mention it because, there have been a couple of times that I've skipped coming because, while my first thought is that it would be a good place to kill some time and get something to eat, I would then remember that the play area is never open... so I usually then opt to go to the mall or something.

However, what really prompted me to write is the excellent service I received last night. The service was not only quick and efficient, but all the employees I came in contact with were very friendly. The food itself was also great! I haven't come to McDonald's a lot lately because, I feel like if I'm going to eat something that is bad for me, I should at least enjoy it :-) And, a lot of the McDonald's food I've received the last several times I've been has not been prepared very well. However, last night I ordered a #1 (Big Mac, Fries and a Lemonade), and an apple pie... the Big Mac in particular was probably the best one I've ever had! It was just perfectly prepared, and as fattening as I know it is, I thoroughly enjoyed it (and the fries and apple pie, as well!) :-p So much so, while I normally don't take the time to write a letter about an experience at a fast food restaurant, I felt the need to do so this time.

I have worked at McDonald's and other similar establishments in my younger days and, I know how hard of a job it is, for such little pay. So, I know it's very easy to not put forth your best efforts. However, the people working last night, did do just that... and, while it might seem like a small thing, I believe it shows the quality of the these people and I wish them much luck in the future!
