Because I've had some questions about it recently, I thought this would be a good time to make a new post, describing what exactly TwinTuesday is :-)
TwinTuesday is something I started on a whim, while on Twitter one day. That was May 19, 2009... the first official TwinTuesday! :-) I was still fairly new to Twitter, and had just learned about creating different topics on Twitter using the hashtag (#). So, I already had a good bit of fellow twin parents that I followed/followed me and I said hey, let's make today #TwinTuesday! :-)
So, everybody made posts saying Happy #TwinTuesday to each other, sharing anecdotes about their twins, etc. I then thought about making it a weekly thing and even perhaps doing a giveaway each week in connection with it. I almost immediately received an offer from someone wanting to sponsor the first giveaway... and, well, it all just kind of snowballed from there :-)
It is still fairly simple, though... my own personal goal for TwinTuesday each week is to make a post on my blog here, usually with a giveaway of some sort (if you'd like to sponsor one, please do drop me an e-mail at jendavemail@yahoo.com). There's almost always a QOTW (Question of the Week) to answer, as a discussion starter :-) And, I also occasionally schedule things like "TwinHappy Hour" where we might do "Twin Trivia" or some other kind of activity :-)
I also do a weekly #TwinTuesday tweet-out, using all the names on my Twin Tweeters list (if you'd like to be included just let me know)! It's just my way of trying to stay in touch with everyone, maybe help my fellow twin parents find each other... and, of course, remind them to have a Happy #TwinTuesday! :-)
Yes, it all does still mainly take place on Twitter, under the topic #TwinTuesday. However, of course, the actual TwinTuesday posting is here on my blog... and, I have even tried to bring it onto the page I created for TwinHappy on Facebook. Plus, there are even a few bloggers out there that now make their own "TwinTuesday" postings!
However, while I did start it and do try to provide a basic structure for TwinTuesday, from the very beginning I always meant for it be something that belonged to everybody! I absolutely encourage you to celebrate TwinTuesday in your own way... it's your day after all! :-)
I hope that helps at least clear up how TwinTuesday started, what it is (basically :-p)... but again, please do feel free to make it your own!
P.S. My main Twitter ID is @TwinHappyJen. However, fairly recently I created a second one: @TwinTuesday. Feel free to follow me either or both places. I simply created the second ID so I could actually show up in searches again, when I wanted to :-p When I started out on Twitter, I did a lot of searching for fellow twin parents to follow and, I guess Twitter thought I was being too aggressive and blocked @TwinHappyJen. (And, I even tried to re-follow just the people who actually followed me back originally, under a new @TwinHappy account... and then Twitter blocked that one, too :-p) It's the one thing I hate about Twitter... I've heard from so many REAL people, with REAL blogs (not spammers) that have been blocked from Twitter search... I, of course, understand the need to control spam, but hopefully someday they'll learn to adjust things, so that they stop alienating so many real, avid Twitter users. Sorry, just my own little rant about Twitter... :-p
